Psst, Baltimore: This project wants to hear your secrets

Hidden Voices Baltimore is collecting anonymous thoughts on the neighborhood level. Write them on a postcard, or submit them online.

A new project wants Baltimore to tell its secrets.
Hidden Voices is looking to better understand the city by asking residents what they may be holding onto. The Open Society Institute-Baltimore and partners including Creative Alliance, Circle of Voices, Thread, Bernstein Family Foundation and Jay-Schlossberg-Cohen kicked off the program Wednesday.
To collect the secrets, the project has an online portal. Additionally, the organizers are distributing 6,000 postcards with postage paid at public locations in neighborhoods throughout the city. Everything is anonymous. It’s inspired by PostSecret, the 12-year-old project started by Germantown’s Frank Warren that’s collected about a million postcards.
“This request for hidden secrets is to better understand the pulse of the city,” Hidden Voices organizers write. “The results will be an avenue to raise awareness of the differences and similarities of individuals living across disparate neighborhoods.”
Some of the responses will be posted on the website, and organized by neighborhood.
A pilot program was held in Sandtown in 2016, in which 300 postcards were distributed at the Yo Baltimore academic program. Here’s how they responded.
