Tech’s diversity problem is well-documented, but strategies for creating a more inclusive team are less widely available.

That’s what BmoreOpen is aiming to address. The event, which is being held during Baltimore Innovation Week 2016, features seven speakers talking about diversity in tech and entrepreneurship from the perspective of gender, age, race and motherhood.

The free afternoon event is set to run from 3-5:30 p.m. at the University of Baltimore’s John and Frances Angelos Law Center (1401 N. Charles St.) on Sept. 27.

Here is the lineup of talks:

  • Allovue Director of Talent Crystal Coache will offer getting specific about diversity and inclusion
  • Author and management trainer Joni Daniels will offer strategies for inclusive team-building
  • Willie Jackson, founder and publisher of Abernathy, will talk about embracing differences among team members
  • Moms as Entrepreneurs cofounder Tammira Lucas will talk about how to supporting mom-owned businesses
  • Jacob Tunney, cofounder of the Baltimore chapter of Aging 2.0, will discuss aging Americans in business

Spearheaded by Yet Analytics cofounder Margaret Roth and ETC Assistant Director Jacqueline Albright, the event arose out of conversations at a Technical.ly Baltimore stakeholder’s meeting in June. Jolie Savelle Kumin of Pixilated Photo Booth, Allie Tscheulin and this reporter were also involved in organizing.
