Amazon hires 2,500 at Baltimore distribution center

Amazon initially said it was looking to hire 1,000 people at its giant distribution center in East Baltimore. That seemed like a big number, but it turns out the ecommerce giant needed a lot more.

The company’s 1 million-square-foot warehouse, which ships goods to shoppers across the mid-Atlantic, opened in February. Since then, the company announced Baltimore would be a pilot site for its Prime Now service, which provides one-hour delivery.
On the whole, the company is enjoying boom times. In the second quarter, Amazon made a rare profit of $92 million, which surprised analysts and sent stocks soaring, according to the New York Times.
The fulfillment associate jobs at the warehouse pay about $13 an hour.
