Correct answer: What is NewsUp, Alex?
The startup, based at the Emerging Technology Centers’ Highlandtown incubator, offers quizzes based on current events and pop culture, from ISIS to Ebola to the Baltimore Orioles. NewsUp celebrated the latest iteration of its public beta at a launch party in Towson earlier this month.

We're focused on curating the best stories from around the web, distilling them into the most important facts, and empowering our users with a fun, efficient, and rewarding news experience.

“With the sheer amount of news content on the web today, it’s difficult to know what’s worth reading,” Andrew Schuster, NewsUp’s cofounder and CEO, said in a release announcing the investment. “We’re focused on curating the best stories from around the web, distilling them into the most important facts, and empowering our users with a fun, efficient, and rewarding news experience.”
The investors in the recent seed round include Under Armour CFO Brad Dickerson, Millennial Media cofounder Chris Brandenburg and former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Melvin Steinberg. Steinberg served under Gov. William Donald Schaefer for both terms from 1987 to 1995.
Brandenburg left Millennial last year. Recently, he joined the board of Canton-based OrderUp as part of a $7 million investment led by Revolution Ventures.
