Imagine if it were as easy for a doctor to take your blood pressure as it was for you to check Facebook. That’s the dream of Shiv Gaglani and the folks at Quantified Carethe Otterbein-based health IT startup that sells smartphone-friendly medical devices, from scales to stethoscopes.

On Monday, the company launched an Indiegogo campaign for what Gaglani called a “21st century doctor’s bag.”

“It’s a bag that you can think of like was used to make house calls but is designed to carry the 21st century technologies,” said Gaglani, Quantified Care’s founder. “A lot of it is kind of getting excitement around the concept of what it means to be a quantified clinician and do things like the smartphone physical.”

The full Quantified Clinician kit runs $2,000 via the Indiegogo campaign. It includes nine smartphone-compatible tools, including an opthalmoscope, ultrasound, otoscope and blood pressure monitor.

“We come at this with a pretty clinical background and we want to get nurses, clinicians and doctors to use mobile technology to get better care,” Gaglani said. His cofounder, Mike Hoaglin, is a MD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, and was the former clinical director for “The Dr. Oz Show.”

In addition to the $2,000 clinician bag, backers can support the company at the $5 or $25 level for a thank you note or a sponsor mention. Higher-tier rewards include a wallet, Quantified Care store credit and an Osler bag. Though the project’s goal is $15,000, Gaglani said the goal is to raise at least $20,000 and bring more partners into the fold.

Just a few hours into the 45-day campaign, the $15,000 target is a quarter of the way to completion.
