Charm City Bikeshare Rolled Back to Next Summer [Links]

"It's the second significant delay this year in the effort to bring bike sharing to Baltimore and third in recent years."

Delayed: Charm City Bikeshare Pushed Back to 2015 [Baltimore Magazine]: “The Charm City Bikeshare project has hit another road block, delaying the launch at least until June or July 2015, Barry Robinson, Baltimore City’s transit and marine services chief, told Bike Shorts today. It’s the second significant delay this year in the effort to bring bike sharing to Baltimore and third in recent years.”

How Tom Popomaronis used LinkedIn to nab his first client [Baltimore Business Journal]: “I’ve invested about $750 in InMail. When we were in the development phase we sent out notes to senior developers in e-commerce, leaders in this space to find out why or why not they would use this. A senior director at Skype understood what we were doing. We had asked for feedback and if he’d be willing to look at the link. He understood what we were doing, responded in length and ended up being an advisory board member. He’s now leading our client relationship with Skype. How we got there was a cold outreach to him that ended up being very warm.”

Oculus VR sued over virtual-reality technology trade secrets [The Daily Record]: “Oculus VR Inc., the maker of virtual- reality goggles that Facebook Inc. is acquiring for $2 billion, was accused by ZeniMax Media Inc. of misappropriating intellectual property it claims is worth billions of dollars.”

No reason to wait for inept government folks to get their acts together.

Services like Spokefly, SpinLister and Bzike will let visitors
    rent
from locals right now, with the app managing all the details of
insurance and such. And I think at least a couple local bike shops
offer rentals as well. If not, they (and individuals — that’s you, dear
reader!) should consider getting into this
space on a limited basis, maybe using craigslist and the vendors above
to advertise for free (and hooking into the local AirBnB renter base, of course),
since there’s clearly a market for well-located bikes.

    Let’s
    show some
initiative here, people. Despite our current government, there’s no real reason for Baltimore to be the lone gravy lump among the jewels of the East Coast. You can help change that by renting out the bike in your basement.
