Come January, as many as 10 health IT startups from around the world could be spending four months in Baltimore city due a new partnership between DreamIt Ventures, the Johns Hopkins University and BioHealth Innovation Inc.
DreamIt Health Baltimore is now recruiting early-stage health care startups for a four-month accelerator program beginning January 2014. Each startup selected will receive up to $50,000 in stipend money and professional services.
Leading the accelerator program in Baltimore is Dr. Elliot Menschik, a Johns Hopkins graduate and entrepreneur who founded HxTechnologies, a medical imaging company, that was acquired by MEDecision in 2009. Applications to the Baltimore program will be accepted through Nov. 11. The startups will be selected by Dec. 16, and the accelerator formally begins Jan. 17, 2014.
Menschik also led the first iteration of DreamIt Health in Philadelphia, which wrapped up in early August. Since 2008, DreamIt Ventures has run accelerator programs nationwide for startups, setting up for a period of three months in different cities. DreamIt was founded and based in Philadelphia but also operates in Austin, New York, Israel and now Baltimore.
