SocialToaster receives $200K from state’s InvestMaryland fund [Startup Roundup]

who’s getting funded?

Theranostics Health, based in Rockville, has raised $40,000 in debt, according to SEC filings, in addition to the (since amended upward) $1.05 million in debt raised earlier this month, as we reported. The biotech company provides “protein-based discovery and translational research services to drug development companies,” according to its website.
SocialToaster, the web startup based in Woodberry that turns businesses’ and pro-sports teams‘ social media followers into online “brand ambassadors,” has been approved for a $200,000 investment from the state’s $84 million InvestMaryland fund.
ReelGenie has also been approved by the state for an investment of $150,000 out of the InvestMaryland fund. The Silver Spring-based startup “creates high-quality videos from a customer’s photos and digital media,” according to MDBizNews.

who’s making moves?

Charles Martucci has taken a job as experience designer at Twitter, and will move from Baltimore to San Francisco soon. (More to follow.) Martucci had been director of user experience at Canton-based startup OrderUp, which Technically Baltimore profiled in January.
Sourcefire reported a Q2 profit of $2.2 million, up from $1.1 million in profit compared to Q2 of last year. The Columbia-based cybersecurity firm is being acquired by Cisco for $2.7 billion.
TechBreakfast makes its New York City debut on Sept. 17 as NY Innovative Tech. The monthly tech showcase organized by local entrepreneur Ron Schmelzer started in Baltimore, and has since expanded to multiple locations in the Mid-Atlantic as well as Austin, Boston and Palo Alto.
