tiConf: 3 reasons this international mobile conference is in Baltimore [DISCOUNT]

This weekend marks the first U.S. tiConf, a two-day mobile development conference tailored for JavaScript and Appcelerator Titanium developers.

Organizer Boydlee Pollentine.

The British are coming. Well, at least one Brit is coming.

This weekend marks the first U.S. tiConf, a two-day mobile development conference tailored for JavaScript and Appcelerator Titanium developers. The event is based off of the first Europe-based tiConf, held this past February in Spain. Speakers and workshops on mobile dev are planned for both days.

tiConf takes place June 28 and June 29 at the Tremont Plaza Hotel downtown.

Both conferences are organized by Boydlee Pollentine, who runs his own U.K.-based digital agency. But why did Pollentine pick Baltimore to be the host of the inaugural U.S. tiConf?

Three reasons, he said:

  1. “We wanted to do our event on the East Coast. Looked at places like New York City and Washington, D.C. It’s really a cost factor. We have to keep the cost relatively low while maintaing a high standard.”
  2. “A developer friend recommended [Baltimore] as a good option with good transport links.” (Some Baltimoreans might beg to differ, and think public transportation still needs work.)
  3. “Plus, I did a little bit of homework, and there’s local organizations like the Digital Harbor Foundation we can support.”

That’s right: a group of students involved in after-school programs at the Digital Harbor Foundation‘s Tech Center in Federal Hill will be at the conference as normal attendees. On the second day, they’ll have the chance to attend workshops on building mobile games with JavaScript, as well as a beginner’s introduction to Titanium development.

Pollentine expects about 150 attendees over the two days.
