Uber brings Grouper to Baltimore, rolls out BlackBerry and Windows Phone apps

Uber enthusiasts, it’s time to enlist two of your friends for a group blind date.
Grouper, run by on-demand car-chauffeuring service Uber, is now in Baltimore almost two months after Uber’s official launch here. Billed by Uber as a “social club,” two groups of three friends each meet out for drinks (with Uber buying the first round), and use Uber transportation to travel between destinations.

The launch of Grouper in Baltimore this month coincides with the startup releasing its first apps this week for BlackBerry and Windows phones, according to an Uber blog post published Monday.

Dan Might, general manager for Uber Baltimore, said in an e-mail the company is “really excited about the BlackBerry and Window app release, especially, for government employees and other companies that use those OSes as their standard.”
As for Uber’s progress in Baltimore one month after the Maryland Public Service Commission dismissed Yellow Cab’s request to prohibit the startup from operating in Charm City?
“App usage continues to grow at a fast pace,” said Might.
