As Technically Baltimore reported, the InvestMaryland Challenge is an early-stage business competition hosted by Maryland. The challenge is open to in-state and national startup companies, although companies not based in Maryland can only apply for the $100,000 grant in the “general” category: “technologies focused on Maryland’s top industries including energy, agriculture, clean tech” and others, according to the InvestMaryland Challenge website.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the InvestMaryland Challenge “seems to be a way for Maryland’s Department of Business and Economic Development to “prime the pump” of startups in the state and promote [the] far larger, $84 million [InvestMaryland] plan to invest broadly in early-stage technology companies in the state over the next several years.”
