Betamore co-founder Mike Brenner launched the Map of Baltimore Tech on Monday, a visual database indicating where startups, coworking spaces, investors, incubators, consulting firms and accelerators are located in the city.

Brenner “seeded” the map with 30 local companies, but people are now entering their own information into the map’s database, he says. Visit the tool at map.BaltimoreTech.net.

The inspiration behind the map, says Brenner, came after a trip to New York City with local business leaders a few weeks back. While there, Brenner got a glimpse of the Made in NY Digital Map, which shows where the Big Apple’s digital companies, investors and incubator and coworking spaces are located.
“I wanted to do something similar,” Brenner says. “I think we’re on the beginning of the emergence of seeing Baltimore startups explode in the city itself.”
Eventually the mapping technique used for the Baltimore Tech map will be applied to the original BaltimoreTech.net site, which Brenner created last year as an online directory of the people in the city’s technology and startup scenes.
To make the Baltimore map, Brenner appropriated the open-source map design created by RepresentLA, with minor design modifications. The maps have been popping up elsewhere, including in Pennsylvania.
