Boon Thau Loo is a professor in the Computer and Information Science department at the University of Pennsylvania. He has graduated 12 Ph.D. students and currently leads several research initiatives at Penn. His research team has published more than 100+ research papers in the areas of communication networks and big data systems. As Penn Engineering’s Associate Dean, he oversees all 17 master’s programs in Engineering consisting of more than 1,300 students, including the newly launched online master’s in computer science. A technology entrepreneur, he has cofounded two StartUp PHL–backed companies in the IT infrastructure space: Netsil (acquired by Nutanix Inc. in 2018), and Termaxia, a big data storage solution company.
