Quick office space tip: Uber Maryland just moved out of its spot in the Mount Vernon Business Center at 10 W. Eager St.
Right now, the building houses nonprofits and small businesses. Building Manager Gordon Steen tells Technical.ly the Center hasn’t been known for tech, since startups usually like to roll together.
After reading an article in our sister publication, Technical.ly Brooklyn, about a newsroom specifically for freelance writers that’s starting up in Bushwick, Steen called us up to show us an office he thinks could be the same kind of thing for Baltimore.
The former Uber office has a large, open space, with a few rooms abutting where people could have meetings. Even though we’re naturally biased toward writers, we noted that he wouldn’t necessarily have to limit it, since creative freelancers of all stripes like to have space, too.
To get the costs down, Steen envisions 10-12 people using the space full-time, then a second group using the space part-time.
He acknowledges that it’s been about 20 years since the office was renovated, which sounds like every newsroom we’ve ever been in.
“It can’t really compete with renovated space, but renovated space is usually more expensive,” he said.
The Business Center also has additional smaller offices available on the floors above the former Uber office. There’s even a common area with a foosball table.
