Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge.”). Below is this week’s edition. Sign up for the newsletter here.

November note: For the next several weeks, we’re trialing a single consolidated national TWIJ rather than our separate geographically focused versions. We’ve heard from both jobseekers and hiring companies over the last year that they’re increasingly interested in opportunities beyond their immediate region, and we hope you enjoy this updated format. We will be sharing a reader survey later in November for feedback, and if you have immediate thoughts or questions, please reach out to sam@technical.ly.

Coming to a theater near you soon …

We’re transitioning into a much less spooky holiday season, but still, let’s ride the coattails of Halloween one last time. If they made a horror movie about the gripes of a job search, what would it look like?

Ghostface from “Scream” calling to taunt with a too-long list of interview questions? Scream queens morph into overwhelming emails from different job boards about all the positions you don’t have the time to apply for? Getting ghosted by recruiters? Uploading your resume to a job board only to have to retype it all?

And to finally emerge from the job search a victor (perhaps to the tune of Survivor” by Destiny’s Child), you have to get through that ultimately terrifying showdown: The Final Interview.

You may be sweating under all that pressure, but hey, you’re surviving. So let’s get into another week of hunting.

OK, OK, we will still stop with all the horror references. Life and work can be scary enough without an added dose of scream queenage. That’s why Jennifer Kurtz brings psychological safety to her new role as Infinite Blue’s CTO. Related: This DE healthcare system was awarded for its efforts to battle burnout.

Ask us anything; no, really, we launched an advice column.

And the question we love to ask — is a college degree needed to work in tech? No, but it sure helps in some cases, per these 2021 RealLIST Engineers from across Pittsburgh, Philly and the DMV.
