1. Facet Wealth brought on Shruti Joshi as COO

Baltimore-based fintech firm Facet Wealth recently hired Shruti Joshi as chief operating officer.

Joshi previously served as an executive at telecommunications company Verizon, where she was responsible for customer acquisition and bringing FiOS to market. She also served as equity partner at Altman Vilandrie & Company, a global strategy consulting firm focused on telecommunications, media, and technology. A former consumer tech entrepreneur, Joshi founded Compell’d, a peer-to-peer recommendation sharing service. Plus, she was an early advisor and investor at Facet Wealth itself.

Facet Wealth employs tech-enabled services to bring personal financial planning to the “mass affluent,” which are individuals with a net worth of $100,000-$1 million. Founded in 2016, the company has a firm foothold as a Baltimore-based growth company,

The company also recently hired Liz Shader, who is a longtime associate of Joshi, as director of growth marketing.

2. Dr. Deborah Birx joined the board of advisors at Linthicum Heights-based Real Time Medical Systems.

Dr. Deborah Birx, who served as White House coronavirus coordinator during the Trump administration, has been appointed to Real Time Medical Systems’ board of advisors. The healthcare interventional analytics solution company plans to draw on the expertise of Dr. Birx to address vulnerabilities in the country’s nursing facilities regarding the pandemic response and emerging variants.

“We look forward to leveraging her significant expertise to enhance Real Time’s infection prevention and control capabilities and help the country’s nursing facilities and their healthcare partners detect communicable disease earlier to minimize outbreaks,” said Dr. Scott Rifkin, executive chairman of Real Time Medical Systems, in a statement.

The idea is improve analytics on coronavirus patient data so that trends can be identified in real time and solutions found.

“Ultimately, it’s not enough to simply collect information; rather, it’s imperative to capture live data, analyze it, and use it,” said Dr. Birx. “The more knowledge nursing facilities, hospitals and payers have, the more proactive and collaborative we can all be in improving patient outcomes.”

3. Think Systems made a series of leadership promotions.

Baltimore-based technology and operations advisory firm Think said it recently promoted multiple executives. They’re as follows:

• Bryan Wolbert was named president of government services.
• Joe Poling was promoted to president of commercial services.
• Dan Küffer was promoted to senior VP of shared services.
• Jeff Welch was named Senior VP of strategy.

“All four individuals are talented, forward thinking and innovative. They make up the foundation of our company, which has taken major steps in the last 12 months as it continues on a strong growth path,” said Tony Gruebl, founder and CEO of Think Systems Inc.

The company has grown its customer sales base by 360 percent and aims to quadruple in size by 2025 according to the press release.

Matt Gillis joined the board at 33Across.

Matt Gillis has joined the board of directors at New York-based adtech company 33Across. Gillis will help advise the programmatic publisher platform on growth strategies across display, mobile, app, and connected TV.

Gillis brings his executive experience implementing significant technology adoption with Baltimore-rooted tech companies like Millennial Media, which was acquired by AOL/Verizon and clean.io.

“Matt’s stellar track record with publishers throughout his career will be a critical resource for 33Across as we continue our mission to help publishers navigate the ever-changing landscape of cookieless, monetization, and addressability,” said Eric Wheeler, CEO and cofounder at 33Across.

Nicole Snell will head funding efforts at Johns Hopkins FastForward.

Nicole Snell has been named assistant director of ventures for John Hopkins startup incubator FastForward. This is a promotion after two years as alliance manager for investment partnerships and translational funding.

Snell will be leading efforts to provide guidance to companies as they seek funding. She rises to the role after Hopkins-affiliated companies collectively raised more than $1 billion in funding in fiscal year 2021.

“I want to keep the momentum that has been created and see continued growth,” Snell said, per Johns Hopkins Tech Ventures‘ announcement. “What I’m trying to do is understand what the venture is looking for and what we have that aligns within the university and making those connections, as well as supporting the startups that are more established in their efforts to fundraise.”

Her experience at Johns Hopkins, coupled with her doctorate in molecular medicine, allows her to speak to both the business and research side of a company, a particular advantage to advising faculty-run companies that rise from the university.

“The ventures position is a natural progression where Nicole’s extensive knowledge of Johns Hopkins University technologies and faculty members enables her to make connections that are timely and fit specific investor interests,” said Brian Stansky, senior director of FastForward.

Michael Geathers joined Early Charm as office operations assistant.

Pigtown-based venture studio Early Charm hired Michael Geathers as office operations assistant. The Baltimore native joins as Early Charm is growing exponentially.

“As our company becomes more complex, we’re glad to have Michael as a part of our team to help us operate as efficiently as possible so we can accelerate our revenue and growth path,” said Ken Malone, executive officer with Early Charm, in a statement.

The World Trade Center Institute named its 2021 Bowe Fellows.

The seventh cohort of Bowe Fellows taking part in the Inner Harbor-based World Trade Center Institute’s Emerging and Developing Global Executives (EDGE) Program has been named. The program brings together 25 of Maryland’s top executives, chosen to strengthen the cross-cultural skills they need to drive international business success in Baltimore and the rest of Maryland.

“Through the EDGE Program, we will bring this diverse group of emerging, globally-minded leaders together to both support their individual career growth and to contribute to greater success and growth for their businesses,” said Susan Aplin, Co-CEO, WTCI, in a statement.
