The long-running event known as Baltimore Data Day is virtual once again in 2021. That means it extends to an entire week.

Baltimore Data Week 2021 runs July 19-23, said organizers with the Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance at the Jacob France Institute in The University of Baltimore’s Merrick School of Business. Gathering policymakers, civic technologists and community leaders, the 11 sessions are dedicated to helping neighborhood leaders access data for their communities through workshops, talks and panels.

There’s been a lot of activity on the civic data front over the last few months in Baltimore, and a July 22 session will bring together a look at the developments. Mayor Brandon Scott and his new administration have released new data tools like Open Budget and Open Checkbook that use a mix of data and visualizations to allow residents to track spending. Mayor Scott and City leaders will be attending Data Week, as recently-hired leaders incluidng Director of Broadband and Digital Equity Jason Hardebeck and Chief Data Officer Justin Elszasz will host discussions on what they do, and the significance of their roles.

Plus, check out a close look at BNIA’s annual Vital Signs report, as well as sessions on using data to understand COVID-19, Baltimore’s Black Butterfly and the entrepreneurial landscape.

Baltimore Data Week is free to the public and hopes to show all attendees what data is available in Baltimore, where to find and access that data and how data can be actionable for communities.
