Power Moves: CleanChoice Energy CTO Anthony Hoang hopes to use tech to boost decarbonization in the District

Former Amify C-suite member Anthony Hoang is the new CTO at CleanChoice Energy, a clean tech company headquartered in Georgetown.

In addition to Amify, the Arlington, Virginia-based company which helps brands market on Amazon, Hoang also held previous roles at Target, Evereve, and CliqStudios. Hoang told Technical.ly that he’s excited to bring his ecommerce background into the climate technology space. He hopes that his data and technology expertise, combined with the ecommerce background, can help expand CleanChoice’s customer base and improve overall decarbonization efforts. In the new role, he’ll be leading the company’s technology team and growing its partnerships with Braze, Segment, Snowflake, Domo and Amazon, among others.

“At least today, there’s a greater imperative to bring all that capability, all that intellectual property, all that craft into something that’s more meaningful for our culture our society, which is combatting climate change,” Hoang said.

He hopes that his technology efforts can further CleanChoice’s goals as a Certified B Corporation (B Corp), which it has been since 2013.

“As CTO, my goal is to curate technology for the organization so that we can accelerate the realization of our mission where we’re a B Corp,” Hoang said.

Break Through Tech, which launched in D.C. in March, has named Donna White as the branch’s inaugural director. White was previously the regional program director for Black Girls CODE and the AnBryce Foundation.

Partnering with the University of Maryland and George Mason University Break Through Tech works to increase the number of women graduating with tech degrees. In the new role, White will be developing growth strategy and developing partnerships with the area’s local corporations and schools.

“Intentionally creating meaningful opportunities has been and will continue to be the cornerstone of my approach in driving effective programs,” White said. “I’ve spent my career working to ensure students from varied backgrounds have the level of accessibility that promotes change, not just checks a box. Young people who understand and know early in their education journey that they are valued and their experience is appreciated and supported seem to have better outcomes.”

Financial advisory firm Sustainable Capital Advisors announced Victor Rojas as its new senior vice president. Rojas, former manager for the Environmental Defense Fund, will be helping the firm expand into new markets in DC with a focus on sustainable infrastructure and financial advising for eco-friendly initiatives.

Rojas said that the city’s effort to restart the economy following Covid coincides with renewed attention on the climate crisis, and he looks forward to advising on efforts that meet the needs of both.

“It is a rare occurrence when the public health crisis from which we are slowly emerging, the climate crisis on which we appear to be finally focusing and the economic recovery which we are all intent in fostering intersect in such a dynamic manner…” Rojas said. “Units of government at every level are required to do more with less, fully leveraging scarce amounts of public capital and crafting financing tools and non-financial policy supports that can animate engagement of the private capital that will be required to address critical issues of climate change, environmental justice  and resilience.”

Billing and revenue automation platform Ordway announced Subbu Venkiteswaran as the company’s new senior vice president of product and engineering. After a $10 million Series A investment last February, the Farragut North company said it would be doubling its team from 25 to 50 people.

Venkiteswaran will be focusing on growing the organization’s technical expertise in business intelligence, ERP integration and domain areas like payment processing, revenue recognition and accounts receivable processes.
