Being told “no” repeatedly can be draining. Anyone in business development and first-time-fundraising founders can tell you that.

But as you step into investing, you’ll find that being the one to say “no” can be draining in its own way.

So says 37 Angels founder and Columbia Business School professor Angela Lee. She’s our guest on this week’s episode of “Off the Sidelines,” an investor education podcast series from us at Technical.ly in partnership with Project Entrepreneur.

Project Entrepreneur, a program by UBS, aims to help female founders by focusing on investment readiness through resources and education, and Lee wants to do the same for investors. Every investor wants to know the right time to act, and the best way to determine that is through observation and learning. With over seven years of investing, observing, learning and teaching — and over 50 companies in her portfolio — Lee was gracious and generous with her advice.

During our conversation, Lee used both her professional and academic experience to provide insight on the large social and macroeconomic trends that are shaping seed- and early-stage investment. What do “Shark Tank” and inflation rates have to do with the recent flood of investment capital? What does it mean when Uber drivers start pitching their business ideas? Is it too late to even begin one’s investment journey now?

Find out the answers to these questions and more by listening to the episode below.
