Step aside, D.C. and Baltimore: Cybersecurity is going to be huge in Philly.

A recent Burning Glass Technologies Labor Insight report revealed that in 2018, there were 10,000 local cybersecurity roles that needed filling — a 127% increase over the last five years, according to Rita McGlone, executive director of professional and organizational development at the University of Pennsylvania.

A few weeks ago, the university announced it was accepting applications for its 24-week cybersecurity bootcamp for those working in the digital sphere. And a June report from Robert Half Technology showed that the number one skill employers are demanding is cloud security/cybersecurity expertise.

So, where are all these local cybersecurity positions? Peep some below:

If our recent coverage on nontraditional coworking piqued your interest in all things library, we have good news: The Free Library of Philadelphia is searching for a Tech Engagement Coordinator for its “soon to be reimagined Paschalville Library” (it’s a Rebuild project). The 30-hour-a-week position assists the Division of Cultural and Civic Engagement to create mapping tools, podcasts and help with digital literacy at the Paschalville and other select branches. (Psst, this one was posted a month ago, so hurry to apply if you’re interested.)

Bonus library coolness: The Free Library is now part of a Chrome or Firefox extension to search the catalogue on non-library websites. When looking for titles on Amazon, Goodreads, Audible and more, the extension shows if the book in question is available at the library instead. BRB while I check all the titles in my TBR.

Wodify Technologies, a gym management software company, has a bunch of open positions in its Philly office. But for those a little more adventurous, the company has an opening for an app Outsystems Software Engineer in Lisbon, Portugal. Hillside views, coastline, pastel buildings … oh yeah, and the chance to build and test features on a fitness app with an additional Philly HQ.

Maybe you heard: It’s no longer cool for corporations to not care about their employees, the environment, the world. Novel! (Note: It’s not actually novel.)

If you’re in the mood to do some social good and a reimagined view of capitalism is your jam, consider working for a local B Corp, such as ROAR for Good (which needs an office manager), MilkCrate (which needs a senior full stack developer, React Native engineer and more) or Houwzer (which needs real estate agents, but also support staff). You might also check out sister site Generocity’s latest roundup of open nonprofit jobs.

Not a job, unless your job is being awesome: Technical.ly is honoring stand-out programmers and other technologists via our new RealLIST Engineers. Tell us here, what devs do you know who deserve to be celebrated for their technical aptitude, community leadership and collaborative practices? We’ll vet the nominations and publish a list in the fall. (Yes, you can nominate yourself.)
