A new mobile fueling company has landed in DC

Don’t feel like making that gas station stop? A mobile fueling company has landed in the District to come to you to fill up your tank for a reasonable price.

This week Silicon Valley-based Filld announced consumer services in Washington, D.C., with a new routed gas delivery service. Consumers are provided with services two nights per week in the commercial or residential location of their choosing. Gas pricing is based on the average per-gallon rate in the users’ area, and includes a $4 delivery fee.

The mobile fuel startup launched in 2015 in the Bay Area and D.C. is the second consumer market to get the mobile gas service. Filld also offers commercial and fleet service in the Bay Area, Seattle, Portland and Vancouver, Canada, with top partners including Daimler car2go, Volvo, BMW ReachNow and Sixt.

“D.C. has been a great area for Filld’s fleet service, which launched earlier this year with our partner car2go. We know that D.C.-area residents are busy, tech-savvy and interested in services that make their days more efficient,” Michael Buhr, president and CEO of Filld, told Technical.ly.

The mobile fueling company texts its customers twice per week on their delivery days to see if they need gas delivered over night. Service is opt-in so customers can reply with “yes,” decline to respond to skip once, or not reply at all to skip services for the entire week. If they choose to receive services, all they have to do is leave their gas flags open to receive an onsite gas fill up. Users can book one-off services through the mobile app, but the delivery windows are limited and delivery fees are higher.

“Providing the environment to build a sustainable, community-driven infrastructure for urban transportation is vital and something we are committed to fostering for all District residents,” Deputy Mayor Brian Kenner said in a press release. “That is why we are thrilled to welcome Filld’s mobile fueling service to Washington, D.C. as we continue to support innovation and create jobs in our great city.”

Filld also announced a $15 million Series B funding round, which will go toward new market expansion, extending services in current markets and advancing its tech platforms. The funding round will be co-led by Parkland Fuel Corporation and early stage venture capital firm Calibrate Ventures, with guidance from previous investors.
