SparkPost, an email delivery provider to tech companies, opened a new Columbia office this week as the company looks to grow its Maryland presence.
The two-story office at 9160 Guilford Road more than doubles the size of its former location, which is across the street, according to the company. The 29,665 sq. ft. space will house 88 employees initially, and the company is looking to make hires in software engineering and product management, customer support and administrative.
SparkPost is also based in San Francisco, and has been in Maryland for 10 years. The company’s email delivery service is specifically designed for devs, and is used by tech companies like Twitter, LinkedIn and Comcast. Its own figures say it delivers more than three trillion emails a year.

Officials marked the new office with a ribbon cutting on Thursday attended by Gov. Larry Hogan and Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman.

“We designed the building to provide our employees with the best possible facility for the collaborative and innovative culture that has fueled SparkPost’s tremendous growth,” CEO Phillip Merrick said in a statement. “The building will provide an environment encouraging innovation, but has amenities to facilitate a positive work-life balance, an important part of our company culture.”

The space has an open floor plan, as well as break rooms stocked with food, communal rooms and a wellness room. It also includes an assembly area with room for about 100 people. Along with internal meetings, the company also hopes to use the space for meetups.
