Make It In BK pitch competition postponed due to snow

A head’s up for those planning on heading to the Make It In BK smart cities pitch competition tonight: it’s postponed on account of the snow.

According to the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, which hosts the pitch competition, the location it was going to be held at, NYU’s Center for Urban Science and Progress building in Downtown Brooklyn has shut down for the day.

The pitch competition will be rescheduled for a night in the next few weeks when all the contestants and judges can make it. The event will now take place Thursday, March 29, at 6 p.m.

On the plus side, this will give Technical.ly Brooklyn Lead Reporter Tyler Woods, who was to host, more time to work on jokes about startups. G-d help us all!

The judges for the pitch competition are:

  • Jeremy Goldberg, Deputy CTO, NYCx, City of New York, Mayor’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer
  • Shaina Horowitz, ‎Urban Tech Hub Director, New Lab
  • Miriam RoureProgram Director, URBAN-X
  • Craig Wilson, General ManagerDigital Future LabNYU Tandon School of Engineering
  • Jacob Yormak, Partner, Story Ventures

The startups competing are:

  • Bixby, a property management app
  • CARMERA, a 3D-mapping startup for autonomous vehicles
  • GoKid, an app to organize carpools
  • Hylas, a kitchen appliance to turn food waste to energy
  • NGEMS, a location device for use in emergency situations

Tickets are $5 and include beer from Sixpoint Brewery and noodles from Yaso Tangbao.
