Common adds two more coliving spaces to its repertoire, with the opening of Herkimer and Kingston, both in Crown Heights, this month.

That brings the housing startup’s total to nine spaces nationally, six of which are in Brooklyn.

Though the concept of coliving is not new (and potentially very, very old) Common has taken it to new levels. Seeking efficiency of space in expensive cities, the idea is for each member of the house to have their own bedroom, but to share kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms, and outdoor space.

Rent at the 18-unit Herkimer house start at $1,475, and at $1,600 for the 21-unit Kingston house.

According to Curbed, demand for the spaces has been through the roof.

“The company has already received more than 12,000 applications for its existing inventory of 265 rooms in New York and San Francisco,” the site reports.

Earlier this year, we named Common as our No. 1 startup to watch in our 2017 realLIST ranking of Brooklyn startups.
