3D printers for Mother’s Day? [Startup Roundup]

Plus: Y Combinator makes its pick in the laundry game.

Who’s making moves?

On Tuesday VHX announced a partnership with Zype, which facilitates making branded video apps for various devices. Here’s a how-to from the Zype dev site. Then, on Wednesday, VHX announced it would create a subscription service, according to a release. Fans could pay an annual or monthly fee to automatically receive access to anything a filmmaker produced and posted on VHX. Sort of like a Patreon thing.
Solidoodle says its shipping delays are over, plus they’ve sorted out a manufacturing error that was impeding performance. Orders placed through Mother’s Day will get a year of free “Solicare” product protection. Just use the code MOM3D. We covered how the company shifted to injection molding with its newest product.
LendYC, a company that started out of the DUMBO Startup Lab, is inching ever closer to its public beta. Its founder, Patrick Browne, wrote about LendYC’s public test on his blog recently. LendYC gives condo buyers info about lenders that have been active in a given building.
ioby, the nonprofit crowdfunding platform based in Gowanus, is seeking summer interns. Applications are due by May 15. The site recently did a blog post on how its platform enabled an alt-weekly in Arkansas to fund deep, ongoing reporting on critical issues, such as an oil spill by Exxon.

Who’s getting buzz?

Cleanly, the laundry pickup and delivery service, got covered in Fast Company. We covered the company in April of last year. The FastCo story reveals that they’ve been to Y Combinator since we spoke and raised a $2.25 million seed round.

Companies: Cleanly / Solidoodle / VHX
Series: Brooklyn
