Delaware-based DeliveryCircle has officially launched in the D.C. area this week, allowing consumers and businesses to get same-day delivery from a network of delivery contractors vetted through a background check process.
“Our model is exactly the same thing as Uber or Lyft,” said CEO Vijaya Rao, “but for delivering packages.”
DeliveryCircle has been in stealth mode in the D.C. area since October 2014, servicing a handful of companies including Arlington-based South Block Juice. Now, it is open for B2B, B2C, and C2C deliveries, Rao said.
The website can help stock up brick-and-mortar shops, help growing businesses deliver their goods without investing in additional overhead or simply deliver packages between individuals. It has already shipped products ranging from medical supplies to printers and custom signs.
“It levels the playing field a bit for the company that is just starting out,” said Rao. The company launched in early 2014 has now expanded from about 25 to 250 zip codes. The D.C. area will be overseen by regional lead James Moore.
