Livestream enables big clients to block viewers in Guam (or wherever) [Startup Roundup]

Who’s making moves?

Livestream enabled geoblocking on enterprise accounts. In other words, if you want to broadcast on the internet, but for some reason you don’t want it to be seen in Guam (like someone has the rights to show it exclusively there, such as on TV), you can block viewers in Guam.
Gimlet Media is probably going to release an app, based on the 13th episode of the StartUp Podcast. On that ep, they do a design sprint with people from Google Ventures. Since the news on StartUp is typically a few months behind what’s actually going on with the company, that probably means the app is in decent shape. But, honestly, who knows? While the prototype doesn’t sound that ambitious (see the video below: they want your opinion if you have one), during they show they discuss fairly ambitious podcast technology. Could Gimlet be seeing the potential of media companies building their own platforms?

Park Slope’s Wadet Eye Games announced a new game for this spring, TechnoBabylon.
Downtown’s NYC Media Lab is now selling tickets for its September Summit.
Lots of game devs from here and all over will be at IndieCade East at the Museum of the Moving Image this weekend. It’s co-chaired by two local game makers, Matt Parker and Toni Pizza.

Who’s getting buzz?

Livestream (#3) and Gimlet Media (#9) made the list of Fast Company’s most innovative companies in media.
Here’s a list from Business Insider of the 11 hottest Brooklyn startups that we’ve already covered extensively, including — as it happens — Livestream and Gimlet media. For what it’s worth.
