Onevest, after CoFoundersLab merger, launches Reddit-style startup learning

The Rockville-based CoFoundersLab merged with OneVest over the summer. Now the new company has launched a crowdsourced entrepreneurship learning platform and is growing its IRL community.

Shahab Kaviani “caught the startup bug in San Francisco.” So in 2003 when he moved back to the DMV — where he’d received his B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park — he tried to spread it around.

He thought, “We could have that same sort of startup community here.”
Though enthusiasm for entrepreneurship was taking off in the early 2000s, Kaviani also noticed that “the failure rate was very high.”
He wanted to push entrepreneurs “to think more objectively and scientifically” about the process of creating a startup, and picking their partners-in-arm.
So he took inspiration from another site that infused algorithms into the realm of passion: eHarmony. Like the online dating site, Kaviani sought to use “skills, inventory and personality, among other traits” to help entrepreneurs find a better match for their business than just their best friend or college roommate.
He launched CoFoundersLab in Rockville in 2011. The network grew, even creating an IRL community through its CoFoundersLab Matchup events, which are popping up in more than 30 cities in the ongoing Global Entrepreneurship Week.
In July, CoFoundersLab merged with New York-based RockThePost to form Onevest, a network for early stage investors and startups.
And this brand of social networking for entrepreneurs didn’t end there. Onevest just announced the creation of Learn.Onevest.com, a Reddit-style platform for entrepreneurs to share tips, news and videos.
Now “entrepreneurs can post their original content,” said Kaviani, and “let the crowd decide what content they want out there.”
The site launched officially Wednesday and will feature content from General AssemblyDraper UniversityEarly Investing and The Founder Institute.
