Here’s who won the first $10,000 from mobile app Spotlight [Startup Roundup]

WHO’S GETTING FUNDED?

Safeguard Scientifics led a $14.5 million Series B round for Madison, Wis.-based digital health company Propeller Health, according to a release.

Spor, the solar-powered battery charger from Drexel students, raised $225,000, according to a new SEC filing. That’s from an undisclosed group of out-of-state angel investors, said Spor spokesman David Hunt. The crew raised more than $112,000 on Kickstarter this summer and $20,000 from angel investors last spring.

 

WHO’S MAKING MOVES?

Spotlight, the social network from a startup called VUID, gave away its first $10,000 prize last week, according to a release. Spotlight plans to give away $10,000 every month to the user who gains the most “likes” on their posts, though after August winner Adam Englehart, it’ll be split up into $2,000 weekly contests and $500 daily contests, said cofounder Kevin Brophy. Englehart got more than 37,000 likes on the app, according to the release.

Relay, the Radnor-based mobile communication startup, hired a new Chief Technology Officer: Graham Barry, who spent 13 years at Microsoft. See the release here.

Jeff Shiau no longer leads Kensington coworking space Impact Hub Philadelphia, according to this tweet. Shiau hasn’t gotten back to us on if he’s returned to the West Coast and is still with Impact Hub (though his LinkedIn says so).
