TEDCO, the state-backed technology investment fund, honored two startups, a medical technology firm founder and an educator Thursday.
The organization’s fourth annual ICE Awards, held at the Columbia Sheraton, delivers awards in innovation, corporate excellence and entrepreneurship, along with the annual Vanguard award. The winning companies are chosen from TEDCO’s pool of 300 seed or early-stage companies.
“The ICE Awards give us an annual opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of our State’s thriving entrepreneurs, as well as those who have helped TEDCO become the go-to source for start-up funding and support,” Rob Rosenbaum, president and executive director of TEDCO, said in a release.

The second Vanguard award went to Eugene M. DeLoatch, dean of the Clarence M. Mitchell Jr. School of Engineering at Morgan State University. In the release, TEDCO officials said the award was for DeLoatch’s “integral support of TEDCO and dedication to moving the organization forward.”
The innovation honor went to Baltimore’s Woofound, creator of an app called Compass, which uses a personality assessment to connect job seekers to potential careers. TEDCO’s corporate excellence award went to CSA Medical of Lutherville for its growth and development in spray cryotherapy.
The entrepreneur prize was awarded to Casey Eitner, senior vice president of Noble Life Sciences in Gaithersburg. In his previous role as CEO of Expression Pathology (now called Oncoplex Diagnostics) in Rockville, he raised $11 million in equity and grants and inked partnerships with pharmaceutical and research partnerships, according to the release.
