Buy the code to 3D print this bowl from artist Francis Bitonti

Brooklyn artist Francis Bitonti has released a line of home goods as 3D printing-ready code, called The Cloud Collection, which launched on Friday (it includes a vase, a serving bowl, a plate and a bowl). We covered the design studio Bitonti led that resulted in a 3D printed dress.

Owners of 3D printers can buy the code for $1 and print the goods themselves. The user also gets some say in the final look of the product, changing the level of texture the product has.

The capsule collection offers four decorative housewares, or rather, the code for these items. By modifying one aspect of the code, consumers can decide how much noise or relief appears on the surface of a vase or bowl, resulting in a customized purchase.

The Cloud Collection is aimed at the masses. Consumers can download the code for $1, but non-MakerBot owners must pay extra to print from 3D Hubs, which have partnered with Bitonti for the line. “We tried to make something where the consumer could engage in the narrative of the object and be part of the design, but not necessarily have to become the designer,” Bitonti says.
