Awesome Foundation: $1K/month microgrant program coming to Philly this fall

The Awesome Foundation, a monthly microgrant program, is slated to launch in Philly this fall.

The more than 50 local chapters of the Awesome Foundation involve a board of about 10 people who each contribute $100 a month and decide what projects and organizations to fund. The only requirement is that the money must have impact, so it wouldn’t go toward, say, a startup, to which $1,000 might change much.

Keith Scandone, O3 World partner, is bringing the Awesome Foundation to Philadelphia.Spearheaded by Fishtown web dev firm O3 World partner Keith Scandone, the Philly chapter is still searching for members. Other than Scandone, already committed members include a CEO from an insurance benefits provider, a doctor from Penn, an attorney, an account rep from a mobile development company, and an account strategist from O3 World.

If you’re interested in joining, email Scandone at keith AT o3world.com

Board members must be able to participate on a monthly basis, Scandone said.

Scandone hopes the Awesome Foundation can help “give a voice” to smaller groups that are trying to make a difference in Philadelphia.

Other local microgrant programs include PhillySTAKE and Small But Mighty Arts Grant.
