This is the Startup Roundup. Every Wednesday morning, Technically Baltimore will put together the smaller pieces that make up our startup ecosystem.
At this month’s Entrepreneur Expo, Daniel Waldman of Evolve Communications was one of several hosts of an entrepreneurs’ study hall, where startup founders went to ask questions about developing products, hiring employees and marketing their companies. Here Waldman shares some of what he discussed: the right time to hire a chief marketing officer.

Given.to, the startup formerly known as NoBadGift.com, gets a nod in the Los Angeles Times after finishing out its three-month stay at the NewME Accelerator in San Francisco.
Brenda McKenzie is the new president and CEO of the Baltimore Development Corporation. Of the BDC’s multiple ventures in Baltimore city is the Emerging Technology Center, which continues to seek applicants for its AccelerateBaltimore accelerator program: $25,000 in seed funding, three months of office space inside Canton’s ETC building and networking with mentors and investors. The deadline for startups to apply to AccelerateBaltimore is Nov. 30.
Owings Mills-based Direct Dimensions launched ShapeShot, the “world’s first end-to-end fully automated 3D photo booth experience,” according to CityBizList. Located in the MakerBot retail store in New York City, ShapeShot’s 3D snapshots can be used to purchase 3D portrait-prints using the MakerBot ReplicatorTM2.
Greenspring Associates, the Owings Mills-based venture capital firm, has been busy investing in several companies, according to CityBizList. Some of the $12 million in funding Intronis (“a cloud backup solution for the IT channel“) raised came from new investor Greenspring. Medialets, a mobile advertising startup based in New York City, received $10 million directly from Greenspring. And Greenspring led the way on a $17 million round of funding for AtTask, a “software-as-a-service project and work management solutions provider.”
