New Hope-based myYearbook, the student-focused social network that was bought for $100 million last July, is scheduled for a big change.
With its new Hispanic-driven sister social network Quepasa, the pair will be merging the two into one single brand, MeetMe. Their parent company, the publicly-traded Quepasa Corporation, announced the merger Tuesday in a press release.
North America’s myYearbook and Latin America’s Quepasa will both run on the myYearbook platform, which the company says is the more advanced of the two. Both sites are social discovery platforms designed to help people meet others online by playing online games.
myYearbook caught lots of attention for being conceived by high school students Dave and Catherine Cook and then executed by the business-minded older brother Geoff and was a local investment for First Round Capital. Quepasa Corporation retains offices at the New Hope site, with other offices in LA, Florida, Mexico and Brazil.
MeetMe will be branded as a global social networking platform. The new logo and name is schedule for roll out in July. The company expects to attract predominantly international users, according to the press release.
When Quepasa and myYearbook combine under MeetMe, the social network is on track to be the largest social media site geared toward meeting new people in the United States, boasts the press release.
The company will roll out mobile applications for Android, iPhone and iPad, in addition to the online web app.
