Urban planning geeks should check out this Penn panel about ‘anchor institutions’

Boring term, important impact. Reps from some of the top urban schools in the country are speaking Wednesday evening at Penn.

A roundtable discussion this Wednesday in Philadelphia will reveal how the University of Pennsylvania and other top colleges around the country promote entrepreneurship as anchor institutions.
The free event, hosted by the Penn Institute for Urban Research and the Penn Center for Innovation, includes speakers from Penn, Yale University, Emory University, the University of Chicago and University of California, San Francisco.
“Leaders from the nation’s most engaged urban universities will discuss how their institutions are fostering innovation and commercialization in new ways: through new strategic initiatives such as corporate alliances, new venture practices and programs, seed fund programs, and virtual and on-site incubators,” according to event organizers.
The roundtable starts at 5 p.m. and will be held at Penn’s Meyerson Hall.
