Call it a pre-emptive strike.
Councilman Bill Greenlee introduced a bill yesterday that would ban the sale of parking spaces. He’s thinking specifically about mobile apps that let you do that. San Francisco banned the app MonkeyParking this summer for that reason.
This isn’t a response to a company saying they will expand to Philadelphia — this is Greenlee getting ahead of the problem, he said.
“If I reserve a spot for you for $15, in some cases you can get into a bidding war,” he told the Daily News. “That generally shouldn’t be done. Imagine the problems it could cause.”
The bill proposes fining anyone who sells a parking space $250.
