Check out CocoaLove, a new Apple dev conference about people, not tech

The first-ever CocoaLove conference, for big-picture thinking among OS X programmers, goes down Oct. 24-26.

Disclosure: This is a guest post by Curtis Herbert, the organizer of CocoaLove.

CocoaLove is a brand-new Mac and iOS conference being held here locally in Old City this October. It grew out of the very active Philly CocoaHeads chapter and our desire to see a conference try something a little different: focus the topics on everything but the code.

Sounds a little crazy, right?

Here’s the thing though: the best conversations I’ve had at other conferences have been those that I can’t just Google an answer for — they weren’t how-to’s or discussions about the latest Apple framework. They were conversations based on the tricky topics in our community like “what does it take to make a sustainable indy product in the app store?”, “is a great design really enough to stand out in the app store?”, or “how can you stay true to your app’s vision while being receptive to user feedback?”

We didn’t want these kinds of conversations to only exist in the hallways between talks or over beer at the after party. We feel that they’re important enough to dedicate center-stage to.

Turns out we weren’t alone in this thinking.

We have 11 awesome speakers coming in from around the world that are really excited to share their thoughts on these kinds of topics. It’s a great mix of independent developers/designers and people from companies like OmniGroup, Vesper, Khan Academy and Toca Boca. It’s only our first year, but we really have an amazing speaker lineup.

The conference is being held from Oct. 24-26 at the Chemical Heritage Foundation. We’re keeping attendance limited to 150 people to encourage an a great community feeling and make sure attendees get a chance to get to know everyone. We want this to be a conference about people, not tech.

We still have some tickets left and they’ll be on sale for just a few more weeks.
