Uber now offering cars with free WiFi, and Philly is first US city to get it

On-demand car service Uber announced today that it will offer WiFi in some of its cars from now until Labor Day. Philly is the first U.S. city to get uberWIFI (cities in Italy got it last fall). The service is connected through Google Apps for Business.

Uber spokeswoman Kaitlin Durkosh would not confirm whether this is a pilot for a broader WiFi expansion into Uber’s other U.S. markets. (Given the short timeframe, it seems like that could be the case.)

“Given Philadelphia’s rich business community and it’s emergence as a leader in the tech and transportation arenas, the city is a great fit for uberWIFI,” was all Durkosh would say.

Rates for uberWIFI cars are the same as those for Uber’s regular black cars, according to the company’s blog post.
