thoughtbot: web and iOS dev shop will open Philly-area office

thoughtbot Philadelphia will join Ruby on Rails dev shops like Neomind Labs and Promptworks, two firms that share an office in Center City.

thoughtbot, a web and iOS design and development shop with six offices in the U.S. and one in Sweden, is opening a Philadelphia office, according to Kyle Fiedler, who will be leading the expansion. Its web development work focuses on Ruby on Rails.

Each thoughtbot office focuses on local clientele, Fiedler said. The Boston office, its flagship, has done work for LevelUp and edX, while the Philadelphia office will focus on clients between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.

Fiedler, 28, moved to Philadelphia from Boston for his wife’s job last summer and thoughtbot agreed to let him run a satellite office. He’s not clear on the specifics yet: how many developers he’ll hire (that depends on how many clients he can find) and where he’ll base the office. He lives in Berwyn with his wife and daughter.
