Among other programming, FPA hosts twice monthly story slams, in which volunteers tell their own five-minute story tied to the night’s theme. This year, each night’s winner gets $100,  plus a chance to compete in the annual Grand Slam on May 16th.

Smith will be at the Ex-Files special event to share a story about geek love as well as giving away copies of his book.

“This isn’t an alternative to Valentine’s Day. This is the full Valentine’s Day experience: hope, heartbreak, love, excitement, joy embarrassment, and a massive amount of over-sharing” says event host R. Eric Thomas in a release about the event.
