Helen Giles-Gee, University of the Sciences‘ current (and first female) president, was recently appointed to the board of the University City Science Center, according to a release.
It’s a 27-person board with big local names like Penn‘s executive vice president Craig Carnaroli, WHYY CEO Bill Marrazzo and Phoenix IP Ventures managing partner Osagie O. Imasogie. The board, which guides the operations and strategic plan for the Science Center, is usually elected by the Science Center’s shareholders to three-year terms that can be renewed infinitely, but Giles-Gee was appointed by the board to fill a vacant spot on an interim basis, said Science Center spokeswoman Jeanne Mell.
The shareholders are 31 local universities, colleges and research institutions. The Science Center’s shareholders’ main role is to elect the Board of Directors, Mell said.
The board doesn’t have any specific requirements on representation across industries but it has a limit of 29 members and has members from the entire Greater Philadelphia region, Mell said.
