The proposed program involves 150 to 200 bike sharing stations offering 150,000 to 200,000 bikes in "an area that stretches from the Delaware River into West Philadelphia, from the Navy Yard through Center City to beyond Temple University’s main campus in North Philadelphia," according to the release.

Updated 8/27/13 12:39 p.m.: A previous version of this article stated that the bikeshare program will offer 150,000 to 200,000 bikes. It will offer 1,500 to 2,000.

Bike share is coming to Philadelphia in late summer 2014, the city announced late last week.

The proposed program involves 150 to 200 bike sharing stations offering 1,500 to 2,000 bikes in “an area that stretches from the Delaware River into West Philadelphia, from the Navy Yard through Center City to beyond Temple University’s main campus in North Philadelphia,” according to the release. The city insists that the program does not only focus on the city’s working professionals, as more than half of people who live below the poverty line will live within the proposed bike share area, a city official told the City Paper.

The program will cost $10-15 million and will be supported by grants and private sponsors.

Will long delayed bike share launch in Philly before SEPTA’s long delayed new payment technology? It’s a question PlanPhilly says will be a cross race.
