The School District of Philadelphia sent layoff notices to nearly 3,800 staffers last Friday. The move is in response to the district’s financial crisis: it’s currently trying to close a $304 million budget deficit. On “Faces of the Layoffs,” meet some of the teachers, counselors, maintenance workers and more who are slated to lose their jobs July 1. Launched by Teachers Action Group, the site encourages Philadelphians to reach out to their Councilmembers and speak out against the layoffs.
