No computers, no phones, no tablets. Just humans.
That’s the lineup for this Saturday. A group of Penn students organized Penn [Dis]Connects, encouraging students to shut off all their devices and hang out with their friends instead. The goal is to get students thinking about how technology impacts how they interact with the world.
The effort is organized by Penn students Aaron Wilson, Elan Kiderman, Joyce Kim, Kelsey Matevish and Kyle Hardgrave.
We clearly dig the idea to encourage people to step away from technology and enjoy the outside: Don’t forget our similar event, the Philly Tech Week Internet Fast Picnic this Sunday at the Porch at 30th Street. (And in the vein of college efforts, Saturday is also the Student Startup Summit from nvigor, also part of Philly Tech Week).
Nationally, there’s the National Day of Unplugging, which is slated for March 7-8, 2014.
