Jobs Commission: to fight 10.2 percent unemployment rate, Philadelphia should promote entrepreneurship

Philadelphia has to support and encourage its entrepreneurs.

It might not be a novel idea to regular Technically Philly readers, but it’s worth noting that yet another local organization has thrown its weight behind promoting local entrepreneurship, as that word continues its national highlight tour.

The Philadelphia Jobs Commission has been working since last fall to develop a set of recommendations to the Mayor on how to tackle the city’s 10.2 percent unemployment rate (that’s higher than the state average of 7.9 percent last December). Among its more than a dozen recommendations were: 

• Expand business attraction efforts to get more businesses to relocate here. For example, more of this and this.
