The University City Science Center has raised more than $1 million for Quorum, its “entrepreneurs’ clubhouse,” according to a release. It’s the 50-year-old organization‘s first major fundraising campaign and won’t be its last, said Science Center spokeswoman Jeanne Mell.

Donors include NewSpring Capital, Safeguard Scientifics, Quaker Partners, Morgan Lewis and the University of Pennsylvania. The funding will be used for Quorum programming and administrative costs, Mell said.

As its 50th anniversary year continues, Mell said the Science Center will introduce other ways for donors to support Science Center programs, including Quorum, proof-of-concept program QED, business incubator the Port and arts tech initiative Breadboard. Quorum is not even two years old but has become both a coworking space and a hub for local tech events, including the monthly Philly Tech Meetup, the Science Center’s Coffee & Capital series and many Philly Startup Leaders events, like a recent panel on how startups can partner with corporations.

To boot, and in full disclosure, the Science Center generally and Quorum specifically will be the official headquarters of April’s third annual Philly Tech Week presented by AT&T, hosting the lunchtime series, kickoff breakfast and the as-yet-unannounced April 3 Preview event.
