Finding a doctor is tough.

In Philadelphia, the average wait for a doctor’s appointment is 27 days, according to a release  from ZocDoc, the online doctor appointment aggregator.

The site allows you to search for a local doctor by specialty and your insurance plan, then book your appointment online for free. If you’re looking to find a new physician, the five star rating system can at least give you a hint about what to expect.

ZocDoc launched in Philadelphia last June to help Philadelphians find available doctors more easily. Almost a year in, the company told Technically Philly that the number of doctor’s appointments available is up 40 percent from last year, with more than 140,000 appointments open on the site.

Visit the site here.

Best of all, in most cases you can completely bypass the annoyance of getting on the phone and sitting on hold when you need to book your yearly check up.

While the site is free for patients, doctors pay a monthly or annual fee to be listed on the site and have their appointment calendar integrated with ZocDoc.

Though ZocDoc is headquartered in New York, the site has Philly roots. Cyrus Massoumi, ZocDoc’s cofounder and CEO, got his undergraduate degree from Wharton.

When the company expanded to Philadelphia, it opened a temporary office in Center City that now employs three local Philadelphians who are responsible for helping to build partnerships with new doctors.

ZocDoc is currently hiring at least one sales executive in Philadelphia, according to their hiring page. If you’re interested, click here.
