SCVNGR employees say the sales pitch for LevelUp is easy. They simply walk into any local business and ask: “Are you tired of Groupon and Living Social?”
At simultaneous press events in Boston and its new Center City offices, SCVNGR officially announced LevelUp, its latest local deals product that combines the gaming elements of its current mobile application while offering a daily deal, taking sites like Groupon and Living Social head on.

By most accounts, SCVNGR is among the most succesful DreamIt Ventures graduates. After leaving the incubator the company moved to Boston, home of CEO Seth Priebatsch, where it expanded its location-based gaming and rewards application growing to over 1 million users. Since receiving $15 million from Google Ventures in January at a valuation of $100 million, the company has been hard at work expanding its reach.

Its first stop? Philadelphia.
The new LevelUp application is a daily deal application that encourages customers to return to businesses where they redeem coupons to “LevelUp” for better deals. As users level up, they can receive additional rewards from SCVNGR.  At the press event, SCVNGR launched using social media-friendly Northern Liberty burger joint PYT. And by sending the deal to friends, users can level up to other deals for free.
The company says it takes 25 percent commission from the deals and will donate all proceeds from the first level to local charities such as Young Playwrights, Mt. Airy Learning Tree and Explorers Sans Frontiers.
