In case you have sworn off Twitter and the national tech media, the esteemed TED conference took place in Long Beach, California last week. The event features 18-minute speeches from former presidents, CEOs, academics and other hand-selected thought-leaders. The attendees are also cherry picked requiring an invitation and a $6,000 ticket.

Normally, the guest list of the yearly conference remains secret, however the fellas over at Valleywag have gotten their hands on the entire guest list. After some extensive searching and find a replace magic, we found everyone from Philly who was deemed worthy enough to attend the event.

  • Josh Kopelman of First Round Capital is on the list and was tweeting about the event all last week.
  • Neil Izenberg, CEO of Wilmington-based Kids Health was invited and we are reasonably sure that he spoke at “Ted U,” the event’s kick off speech series, about “Why babies are cute”.

… and that’s it. Though we certainly we could have missed some folks, so feel free to scan the list yourself.

Certainly a CityCouncil intent on suing Facebook and Twitter for the activities of a few local residents isn’t going to increase our standing in the tech world…

Philly could do a TEDxPhilly. As Chair of Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic, I attended TEDxEast Nov 2009 in NYC. Organizers said we could do one in Philly. Let’s get critical mass to apply in 2010.

Actually there is a group putting together TEDxPhilly as of last month. We are still in the early stages of contacting speakers, locating a venue and establishing a website. But there is a strong and dedicated group preparing to make it happen. For now you can get up to date info by following us on twitter: @TEDxPhilly
