#Delabear goes viral

Another black bear paws its way into New Castle County history.

A bear was spotted in Trolley Square, and you’d’ve thought it was a resurrected Tyrannosaurus Rex.

To be fair, though, this is not a scene you often see in Wilmington:

Possum, buzzards, deer, raccoons and even the occasional fox, sure, but not this:

It caused enough of a stir that NBC Philadelphia set up a Delabear livestream, which … is a little much, but hey, who doesn’t need a distraction?

You might remember #Delabear 2016, when a black bear was spotted near the University of Delaware. That was when @thedelabear first took to Twitter for a day of parody livetweeting.

Well —

For hours, the real Delabear roamed, as residents were told to stay out of Rockford, Brandywine and Alapocas parks, and accordingly Delaware, well, Delaware’d:

The attachment to Delabear reached Baby Yoda levels by midday:

Around 1:30, amid rumors that Delabear was really two bears (per Nextdoor) and had escaped the WPD into the wilds of the Brandywine back country (or something), animal control failed at an attempt to tranquilize the animal:

Here’s hoping the iconic Delabear makes it through safely. Where is it now? Check out #Delabear on social media.
